L2 on an external SSD?

Postby Lomyr » 27 October 2015, 14:22

Hi,
I'm running L2 on a quite new but not very powerful laptop. Do you think I will get more permormances if I install and run L2 on a external SSD (by USB 3 ofc)?

Hey

Why not changing the internal harddrive to have an SSD inside, and move your actual (physical) hard drive as external?

I have an ultrabook (Asus X200CA): I can't even remove the battery (unless if I remove some screws maybe) so it may be even harder for the HDD. Moreover I am a little bit afraid of such surgery :-O
EDIT. There is a similar thread on 4game forum (from October, 1st) and it seems that there will be some limitations due to USB 3.

The Hard drive can be changed on this ultrabook, but you are right, not as easily as on some other laptops. You need to remove the keyboard and some screws.
I Highly advice you to do it, because the performance gain on the entire ultrabook (windows system, browser, Lineage II...) will be huge compared to an external usb3 SSD with Lineage on it. (almost all usb3 storages have shity transfert speed).

How can I know the dimensions of my HDD? I can't find it online, do I have to mesure it myself? :)

99% sure that this is a standard 2.5" like all ultrabook.
3.5" are generally used by standard desktop computers

No idea, my desktop computer have a 2.5" SSD, attached on a 3.5" harddrive 'slot'.

The Internal harddrive is a normall 7200 or 5400 rpm? disk
Then I would say yes it would be better/faster, to put in on external ssd through usb 3.
The SSD has better read/write and usb 3 has a fast throughput.

SATA is more optimised and higher throughput, but you will not hit that maximum anyway.
